About The Project

About the Project

Spirit of Flight installation The Spirit of Flight is a contemporary public art installation by visual artist Sharon O’Reilly, in collaboration with a range of community groups and Museum staff presented in our Transport Galleries.

This innovative project was conceived and developed to encourage creative partnerships with those in our society who, for many reasons, would not normally view museums as their own space and place to be, to work, to learn and to play.

It provided opportunities for the groups to work with a contemporary visual artist to develop and create a public artwork, at the same time encouraging ownership of the Museum and its collections.

We are grateful to the National Lottery Fund for support of this project.
