UNLOCKING THE CREATIVE ARTS
creating a landmark …
The National Museums Northern Ireland's outstanding collection of fine, applied and folk art is well known and widely acknowledged throughout the world. It is both a tribute to human creative achievement and a powerhouse for creative inspiration. We intend to build on the potential of these collections by creating a centre for artistic activities of all kinds, interacting with the community to stimulate creativity and foster understanding of its role in art, design, science and technology. Workshops and residencies will support work in minimal, conceptual, performance, and photographic art, and will also explore the artistic potential of new and established technologies.
… and making our mark.
Music, dance, drama and poetry will also be accommodated, and the relationship between art and design will be explored. The educational role of fine, applied and ethnographic art in all its aspects will be enhanced for all our visitors. Our fine collections of paintings, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewellery, precious metals, textiles, costumes and crafts will be displayed, and major international touring exhibitions will have a suitable venue in Northern Ireland. Artistically, we will see and be on show to the world.
