THE DIGITAL MUSEUM
does it compute …
A computerised inventory of all the collections held by the National Museums Northern Ireland will be a key element of the new virtual museum. This will satisfy audit requirements and will be a tool for managing the collections. The use of electronic and digital interpretation will enable the development of multi-media products. Knowledge, data, ongoing and completed research will be published, facilitating the development of partnerships and consortia on all levels.
… to release hidden treasures and talents?
Through electronic publishing and the National Grid for Learning, educational materials can be published worldwide and be directly downloaded. Presence on the worldwide web will be an international window for our collections and for every aspect of museum activities, services and products. It will project Northern Ireland's image to the world. The international exchange of ideas will be a tool for both enabling our audiences and developing our programmes.
