Rebecca Suitor Rebecca Suitor was born in Ireland on the 24th of October 1866. Along with her husband, she travelled back and forward to America several times, making a few dollars and coming home to the farm where she would eventually raise her children. Her husband was John Suitor. John was a farmer by profession and worked on land outside Philadelphia belonging to the Stetson family of hat fame.

Rebecca and John had three children Robert John, William and Maggie. Robert John and William were born in Philadelphia in 1902 and 1904 respectively. Maggie was born in Ireland in 1906 Rebecca and John and their two sons had moved back to Ireland to live by then, settling on a farm at Derrymean, near Aughnacloy in County Tyrone. John died in 1909 from pneumonia, aged 49, and Rebecca died in 1956, aged 90. The farm remained in the family until 1968, when it was sold on the death of Robert John.

Suitor coverlet According to family tradition, this coverlet was knitted by Rebecca in the period 1902 to 1905. Her daughter Maggie passed the coverlet through the family to Beryl, wife of Williams son, John, in 1975. Beryl, who lives in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, donated the coverlet to the Ulster American Folk Park in 2003.
