If you would like to donate an object to the UAFP it may be helpful to read the museum collecting guidelines below as this may help you understand the thinking behind the Ulster American Folk Parks collection.

If you are happy that the object you have would be of interest to the museum please contact the curators by e-mail or telephone at +44 (0)28 8224 3292 and we can talk about your donation.

If your object is a useful addition to the collection, arrangement will be made to view the object. If it can be added to the museums collection you will be asked to fill in an object entry form. This will be a record of the name and type of object, where it is from so that its history will be recorded for posterity along with your name and address.You will be asked to sign an agreement that the absolute ownership of the object is transferred to the museums governing body.

You will be given a copy of the form as a receipt along with a complimentary admission to visit the museum.

Collecting guidelines

The museum is limited in those items which it may acquire. Not all offers of loans, donations or sales can be taken up.

The philosophy of the UAFP is to develop a series of indoor and outdoor exhibits reflecting all aspects of the lives of emigrants from Ireland, particularly Ulster, to America from 1600 to the present day.

The collection currently includes objects which relate to Ulster emigration to Canada, Australia and other parts of the world. We intend to develop a specialist collection devoted to emigration telling the story of all people leaving Ireland for all parts of the world.

We will use the objects in the collection to show the profound impact our people have on the history, culture, economy and development of their adopted homelands.

Objects are collected in the museum in order to;

The museum also collects vernacular dwellings.

The cost of acquiring, processing, conserving, storing and providing access to collection is large. All items from donors will be reviewed by the curatorial department before being accepted.
